[People rarely have to try to get Rita riled up. Somehow, it just...happens.]
It's not like I intended to waste anything on him. I mean, who the hell just sings in the middle of the night?
[Nevermind that it means Rita was on the Promenade in the middle of the night, too.]
Anyway, that part's not important. I just wanted to let you know that talking to Jenny was a nice idea and all, but in the end she's just an idiot who doesn't know anything.
[Which is totally why Rita was unable to get any information from her. Clearly nothing at all to do with Rita herself.]
( it feels like the humane thing to do, abandoning the line of conversation regarding skulduggery getting off the captain. the fact this line of logic now exists in her brain is completely unwelcome, but here we are. for now, they're moving on to actual productive things.
or... unproductive things, apparently. clarke feels a pang of disappointment, tinged with the mild confusion over the fact pretty much any time she'd approached jenny, she'd managed to learn at least something. )
I'm sorry, Rita. I really thought she'd be able to help.
[Rita's all too happy to move on from the topic as well, semi-oblivious to the unfortunate knowledge Clarke now has to suffer knowing, too.]
Like I said, it was a nice idea and all.
Even if she does know anything, she didn't feel like sharing. Can you believe how moody she is? And seriously rude. How the hell she ever convinced the captain to teach her anything is beyond me.
[Shh there's definitely no hypocrisy happening in these texts...
But...she did just remind herself that whatever Jenny knows about sigils, she learned from the captain first. Hmm.]
Maybe I can try asking her some time. ( this is the kindest, most gentle way of saying "let the adults talk". it is, more accurately, a "i suspect user error and will attempt a reboot accompanied with a little bit of simp energy", which has seemed to work for her in the past. )
Maybe teaching her was a condition of winning the game of Blackjack, I don't really know. You're sure there's nothing in hindsight that sticks out about your conversation?
Don't say I didn't warn you if she tries to blow out your hearing, too.
[Which is Rita's way of saying that she doesn't really think anyone else will fare that much better (do prove her wrong, Clarke).]
She barely said anything about sigils at all. Just that she draws a shape and tells it what to do, and that she only knows how to break the jewelry case and bribe the erda flow.
I would've liked to know about that second one, but like I said, she wasn't exactly cooperative.
you know, back then the ship had felt so strange and new, and not every important detail had stood out as sharply as it should have during pirate jenny's first foray onto the ship. now, for better or worse, the serena eterna has come to feel like a begrudging home, complete with rules for what is and isn't possible — the latter being few and far between. two of the lesser that come to mind are: the crew door won't open and the glass cases in the jewelry shop can withstand anything you throw at it. naturally, remembering there's a way around it positively fascinates.
so ...huh. interesting. so is bribing the erda flow. )
I would too. I wonder what exactly it can be bribed for, apart from I guess... a ship.
I'd sure like to know. If we at least knew the sigil, we might be able to experiment. But prying it out of either Jenny or the captain sounds like it'd be a pain.
[...There's still the possibility of the captain, but...every time she thinks about asking him for anything, she just feels disgusted.]
...no, I think you should stay away from the Captain. I imagine he's still licking his wounds after the trial. And he's never answered the Bridge for me.
But maybe... we could ask someone else to talk to him.
[She's more offended that people seem to think she can't keep a calm head around the captain-! Even if...her track record...does kind of speak against her there... (which, okay, she recognizes is not her strong suit, but it's still annoying!)]
( she starts defensively typing: he doesn't LORD over —
but. that feels a bit too obvious. backspace, backspace, backspace. )
He's no more insufferable than you are. I think you're both ridiculously smart and the rest of us can benefit from hearing you talk about how your mind works, what connections you're making, any ideas you have, etc.

You think I shouldn't, but you want to send someone else? What, are you saying he'll ignore me too?
[Huff, that only happened once!!]

( though things might be better if he did. rita, don't act all offended like you don't remember the hand incident. )
But I'm saying it'd be good to diversify our approach.

Who else would you suggest to send, then?

Palamedes. ( and boy howdy that answer was quick. ) Or Jade, if I trusted him to ever tell us everything.
no subject
[Yeah, she's on board with Clarke's assessment of Jade, but Palamedes--Rita isn't so sure.]
no subject
( but because it feels weird to stand on that conviction alone, clarke continues. )
If he figured anything important out, he wouldn't be able to shut up about it.
no subject
Yeah, he is the type to lord it over everyone else.
[Which, now that she thinks about it...]
All the more reason not to give him anything to be even more insufferable about than he is already.

You really know how to make compliments sound insulting, don't you?
[Hush that's totally not hypocritical of Rita. Anyway.]
Well, whatever. If he does find something, then we'll talk.
